Female protest typography has a rich and complex history in graphic design. It has been used to draw attention to a wide range of issues, from reproductive rights and workplace discrimination to racial inequality and LGBTQ+ rights. One of the earliest examples of female protest typography dates back to the early 1900s, when suffragettes used bold and eye-catching posters to demand the right to vote. Over the years, female designers have continued using typography to raise awareness and cause social change.
Therefore, for the 'Female Rage' seminar at KISD (Koln International School of Design), I decided to research and discuss an influential and important theme in graphic design — feminist protest typography. That is, typography that has been used in demonstrations fighting for the rights of all human beings, especially in protests that gave women a voice; and, also, women typographers who have revolutionised socio-political movements.
